Let's stand up for freedom in 2024.
Since 2011, at the initiative of several women's organizations, the campaign "A Billion Rises Up Against Violence Against Women and Girls" has been implemented in the city of Zagreb.
Over the course of thirteen years, over 30 women's organizations across Croatia have joined the campaign, including county gender equality committees, and numerous civil society organizations, cultural institutions, dance centers, primary and secondary schools, sports associations, and a large number of prominent figures from public life have participated in the program.
The One Billion Rising (OBR) campaign has grown into a movement against violence against women worldwide and is now being implemented in more than 200 countries. This year, it will be implemented in Zagreb by activists from women's organizations: CESI, Center for Women's Studies, Women's Room, SOIH - Network of Women with Disabilities, Women to Women, Roma Women's Association Bolja Budućnost, Autonomous Women's House Zagreb, RODA, Status M, In Good Faith, and others. The campaign is once again supported by SDDH.
Symbolically, the activities of Billions Rise Up take place on the eve of or on Valentine's Day (February 14), and often include various other significant dates, especially March 8, with different themes (We Rise Up for Justice, for Minorities, for Solidarity, etc.) all with the aim of raising awareness in the fight against violence against women and girls.
As part of the year-long activities of the Women's Film Festival and the Billions Rise Up Against Violence Against Women Initiative, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, starting at 8 p.m., at the Zagreb Dance Center (Ilica 10, in the courtyard building), a program under the slogan "Let's stand up for freedom, be a new world!" will begin with a gathering in the foyer, followed by the theater play "Love Songs for Good Girls", a monodrama by Rona Žulj, performed by Miran Kurspahić. Through the play, supported by video projections by Vanja Vascarc, viewers will be exposed to the subtle and less subtle mechanisms of toxic love relationships.
At 8:50 p.m., a panel discussion will be held with authors and guests on the topic: "Young Women in Relationships".
